Questions & Answers

Q. What is Digital Television (DTV)?
A. Digital Television (DTV) is an innovative new type of broadcasting technology that will transform your television viewing experience. DTV enables TV stations to provide dramatically clearer picture and better sound quality. DTV can also offer multiple programming choices, interactive capabilities and data services.

Q. What are the Benefits of DTV?
A. Digital Television allows stations to offer a number of new and better services. In addition to providing dramatically better picture and sound quality, DTV also enables TV stations to provide several channels of programming at once. This is known as "multicasting" DTV can also be used to provide data services that are not possible with analog technology.

Q. Can I keep my Analog TV Sets for DTV signal?
A.

Yes. Buying a new digital television set isn't the only option you have for navigating the DTV transition. If you wish to continue using your analog set, you must purchase a DTV converter box, which will convert the new digital signal into the analog format for older televisions.

Q. How do I know if I have an Analog or Digital Television Set?
A. To check whether your TV set can recieve over-the-air digital broadcast signals, take a look at your owner's manual or look on the set for an indication that it has a built-in Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) tuner. You can also go to the manufacturer's Web site and check the capabilities of the set by manufactuer model number.

Q. What is a DTV Converter Box?
A. A DTV converter box is and easy to install electronic device that hooks up to your analog television set and over-the-air antenna and converts the digital television signal into analog, making it viewable on your analog television.

Q. How can I determine if DTV will work in my area/location?
A. In general, if you have a working antenna, or there are working antennas in your
neighborhood, if any analog channels can be viewed (even if they are somewhat snowy
or otherwise imperfect), the digital copy of this station, and its sub-channels should
work.

Q. What factors determine just how good my reception will be?
A. The distance from the station, and the amount of obstruction in the direction of your receiving area are the prime factors in determining the quality of your reception.

Q. Will DTV work if there are trees on my property?
A. Trees will decrease the signal, but unlike satellite, they will not completely block the signal.

Q. Does the weather have an effect on my reception?
A. DTV reception is much less likley to drop-out during snow and rain than Satellite, in fact moderate rain and snow can improve the signal quality.

Q. Where do I mount my antenna?
A. When possible, choose a spot that will allow the antenna to be as unubstructed by buildings trees ect. as possible.

Q. Do I need any special tools to install my own antenna kit?
A.

No, our self-install kits come complete with all connectors installed, however a cordless driver with a 7/16 socket is very helpfull in attaching the mount, and a 10mm wrench and a compass are required for aiming the antenna.

Q. How do I aim my antenna for reception?
A. You use a compass to aim a mark on your rotor to due North then follow customized aiming instructions, using a keypad on the rotor remote control to start the tuning process.

Q. Can I hook-up more than one TV set?
A. Yes but you will need to describe your needs when ordering your kit, so we can supply you with the proper equipment and instructions..We will be happy to quote the charges for these available options.
